File Extension UPDATE

The file extension UPDATE is associated with ISAPI, which is an application that allows Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files to be switched on a Microsoft IIS web server. ISAPI stands for Internet Server Application Programming Interface and the UPDATE file extension is used by the ISAPI Loader to switch or “hot-swap” DLL files during implementation. The DLL file contents are updated and are automatically recognized by the ISAPI Loader.

The file extension UPDATE is a data file type that contains updated DLL files which are used on a Microsoft IIS server. IIS stands for Internet Information Services and is a technology used by Microsoft for hosting anything associated with the web. The IIS server architecture is designed to handle media streaming and a broad range of web applications.

When the updated DLL files are identified by the ISAPI loader, the current DLL files are changed to the file extension BACKUP in order to accept the file with the extension UPDATE. Once the file extension UPDATE is accepted, the IIS server will automatically change the extension to RUN before resuming web operations on the IIS server. This allows Dynamic Link Library files to be updated without having to shut down the server.

How to Open UPDATE Files

The best way to open the UPDATE file extension is by using the ISAPI Loader, which is an Application Programming Interface designed to be used with Microsoft Internet Information Services server. Files that contain the UPDATE extension are designed to be used with the ISAPI Loader API.

If you have access to the Microsoft IIS server and you use the Windows operating system, you can open the extension UPDATE by downloading the ISAPI Loader interface by EggCentric from the IIS website. ISAPI Loader is available as a free trial and will update running ISAPI applications without the need to restart the IIS server or associated Application Pools.

If for any reason it is necessary to open and view the contents of the UPDATE file, you can use any text editing program. If you use Windows, you can open UPDATE files with WordPad, Notepad, or Microsoft Word. For Mac OS X, you can open UPDATE files using Apple TextEdit, BBEdit, TextMate, Apple Pages, or MacVim. For the Linux operating system, you can open and view the contents of an UPDATE file using AbiWord, EditPlus, gEdit, Nano Editor, PSPad, Leafpad, KWrite or Vim.

It is important to mention that the file extension UPDATE is associated with Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files which are necessary files for the proper functioning of applications. For this reason, you should use caution when manually opening the files to avoid accidentally modifying the contents of the file.
