File Extension RGP

The file extension RGP is associated with Rosegarden for the Linux/UNIX platform and RealArcade by RealNetworks. Rosegarden is a software application which provides a set of tools for music editing and is also an audio and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) sequencer. RealArcade is a game portal which is used to purchase and download arcade style games.

If the file extension RGP is related to Rosegarden, the file is an audio file type which stores music projects that are created using the Rosegarden application. Rosegarden is designed for use with the Linux/UNIX platform and provides a comprehensive music composition, arranging, and editing environment.

If Rosegarden files are in a basic file format, they will display the RG extension. Rosegarden files which contain device definitions designed for use with a Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) will display file extension RGD. If the two files are bundled together, then a Rosegarden file will use the file extension RGP.

If the RGP file is associated with RealArcade, it is a game file type which is a package file that describes different modes which should be used with RealArcade games. This type of RGP file is capable of being integrated into RealArcade games from a different layout and then imported into a more common game layout. RGP files are designed to be used with the RealArcade Game Package application in conjunction with the user’s operating system where arcade games are downloaded to a PC desktop.

How to Open RGP Files

The file extension RGP which is created with Rosegarden can be opened using Rosegarden 12.12.25 music editor and MIDI sequencer. Rosegarden is available as a download or in source code form on the Rosegarden Music website. Rosegarden distribution packages for Linux/UNIX platforms are offered for Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS Hardy Heron through Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzel.

For Debian, Rosegarden is offered for openSUSE 12.2, 12.1, and 11.4 in addition to Arch Linux and Gentoo. You must also use a PC which is capable of running Linux with an ample amount of memory and RAM (Random Access Memory) since Rosegarden uses a lot of memory and demands a significant amount of processing power. Also, for maximum performance of Rosegarden it is best to use a Linux kernel which is designed for use with applications that operate in real time.

For the audio portion of RGP files, Rosegarden requirements call for the use of ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) sound drivers which are available on the ALSA Project.org website. An external Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) can also be installed using the corresponding cables and leads. For sequencing, you must use a JACK audio server which can be accessed on the JACK Audio.org website.

If the file extension RGP is associated with RealArcade, the file can be opened using the RealArcade Game Package which is available as a free download on the CNET website. RealArcade is designed for use with the Windows operating system and Mac OS X. Any RealArcade games you download to the desktop following the Game Package are integrated with the RealArcade game portal.

It is also important to mention that it is not uncommon for RGP files to be sent as an email attachment. In this instance, it is important to use caution before opening the attachment as it can contain malicious code which can cause harm to your PC and its components.
