File Extension PWI

The file extension PWI is associated with Microsoft Office and the PowerInspect application by Delcam plc. Microsoft Office is a suite of office productivity applications. PowerInspect is a Computer Aided Design software application which is used in the engineering industry.

If a PWI file is related to Microsoft Office, it is a text file type which contains personal notes, documents, headers, footers, fonts, and other elements which are used for word processing. This type of PWI file is designed to be used with the mobile edition of Microsoft Word and can be integrated with the Notes feature in Microsoft Outlook email client.

The mobile edition of Microsoft Word is also commonly referred to as Pocket Word and can be used to sync files with Microsoft Outlook. PWI files can also be used with a traditional PC and the full version of Microsoft Word; however, keep in mind some of the formatting may be missing when using this method.

If the file extension PWI is created with PowerInspect, the file is a CAD file type which contains two dimensional illustrations, lines, objects, shapes, and other elements which are used to inspect data. PowerInspect is used to inspect and compare various types of Computer Aided Design data and complex CAD surfaces using any type of measurement solution and a variety of inspection hardware.

How to Open PWI Files

Since PWI files can be opened using more than one program or application, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. PWI files vary in contents, so you may already have a program which will open the file.

If the file extension PWI is associated with the Microsoft Word mobile edition, you can open the file using Pocket Word installed on a mobile device. Pocket Word is available for download on the Microsoft website and is designed for use with a mobile-based device such as the Windows Phone.

Microsoft Word PWI files can also be opened using the full PC version of Microsoft Word which is available for download with Microsoft Office on the Microsoft website. If you are using Windows, you can use Word 2013 to open PWI files. For Mac OS X, you should use Word 2011 to open PWI files. Microsoft OneNote 2013 will also open PWI files with the Windows operating system. OneNote2013 is available for download on the Microsoft Store website.

PWI files which are created with the mobile edition of Microsoft Word can be opened using any text editing application. If you are using Windows, you can open PWI files with WordPad, Notepad, or TextPad. For Mac OS X, PWI files can be opened using Apple TextEdit, MacroMates TextMate, or MacVim. For the Linux operating system, you can use AbiWord, gEdit, Nano Editor, or Vim.

PWI files that are related to PowerInspect can be opened using the PowerInspect Computer Aided Design software application which is available on the PowerInspect website. PowerInspect is designed for use with the Windows operating system.

PWI CAD files can also be converted to another CAD/CAM format such as DWG or DGN for use with a broader range of applications including TurboCAD, Autodesk AutoCAD, AutoDWG Attribute and others. There is a selection of CAD conversion programs which are offered as a free download on websites such as CNET and Softpedia which will convert PWI CAD files for you.

There is also a number of online resource websites such as Zamzar which will perform free file conversion for you. Simply log onto the Zamzar website, browse for the PWI CAD file on your PC, choose a new CAD format, enter your email address, and click on Convert.
