File Extension PNF

The file extension PNF is associated with multiple programs and applications and various file types. The programs and applications include Microsoft Windows, Portable Network Graphics, and Norton. PNF files contain data and information related to the program that created the file.

If the PNF file is related to Microsoft Windows, it is a system file type which is created on a temporary basis whenever a file with the INF extension is run. INF files define which files should be installed with a specific program or application. The file extension PNF contains temporary configurations for INF instruction files. PNF files are located in the Windows folder along with the corresponding INF file.

PNF files which are defined as a Portable Network Graphic file are a bitmap file type that contains graphics which are in PNG or Portable Network Graphics format. Bitmap files are image files that utilize lossless data compression and can be created with a variety of image editing applications.

If the file extension PNF is part of Norton, the file is a various data file type which contains a variety of data associated with the Norton Utilities application. The function of this type of PNF file is identified with an additional character on the file extension such as PNFV, PNFF, PNFX, and so on. Norton Utilities is an application produced by Symantec which provides a set of tools for improving PC performance.

How to Open PNF Files

Since the file extension PNF can be opened using multiple programs and applications, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. PNF files have different associations, so you may already have a program which will open the file.

If the file extension PNF is related to Microsoft Windows, you can open the file using the Windows operating system. Since this type of PNF file exists to accompany program installations, there is no reason to open it and view the contents. Once the specific application is installed, the file can be deleted from the Windows folder since its purpose is temporary.

PNF files that are classified as Portable Network Graphic (PNG) can be opened using virtually any graphics application such as Adobe Photoshop CS6 which supports this format. Adobe Photoshop is part of the CS6 Creative Suite of applications and can be downloaded in a trial version on the Adobe website. Photoshop is designed to be used with Windows and Mac OS X.

Portable Network Graphic PNF files can also be opened using an open source graphics editor such as GIMP which is available as a free download on the GIMP.org website. GIMP is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and the Linux operating system.

You can also opt to convert Portable Network Graphics PNF files to another format such as GIF or JPG using any file conversion program. There are a number of file conversion programs available as a free download on websites such as CNET and Softpedia which will convert PNF files for you.

You can also use an online resource such as Zamzar which will perform free file conversion for you. Simply log onto the Zamzar website, browse for the PNF file, choose a new format, enter your email address, and click on Convert. Within minutes you will receive the newly converted file in your email inbox. This allows you to open and work with the file using a broader range of applications.

If the PNF file is associated with Norton, you can open it using Norton Utilities which is available in a paid version on the Norton website. Norton Utilities is compatible with the Windows operating system version XP and higher.
