File Extension PDF_

The file extension PDF_ is associated with Adobe Acrobat by Adobe Systems. Acrobat is a free software application which provides a way to open and edit documents which are in PDF. PDF stands for Portable Document Format and is a universal format which is used to view documents across multiple platforms and operating systems. Adobe Acrobat is offered in several different editions on the Adobe Systems website.

The PDF_ file extension is categorized as a document file type and contains text, images, structured data formats, page layouts, and other elements which are used to create a professional document. The components are placed in Portable Document Format to make it easier to share documents over the Internet regardless of the platform or type of operating system the recipient of the document uses.

The PDF file extension is typically displayed with a period before the extension. The file extension PDF_ which contains an underscore after the extension is an older format which was created using Apple Mac OS. Mac OS is also known as Classic MacOS and is an older operating system which used previous versions of Adobe Acrobat.

How to Open PDF_ Files

It is not uncommon to have difficulty opening the file extension PDF_ since it is an older Portable Document Format. If you are using Windows or Mac OS X, you can try opening a PDF_ file using your current version of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. You can accomplish this by right clicking on the PDF_ file and choosing Open With from the drop-down menu. Then select the Adobe program you want to use to open the file. If you do not have any Adobe applications installed, they are available at no cost on the Adobe website.

If you are unable to open PDF_ files using current Adobe programs, the other option is to convert the file to a PDF file extension. You can do this by saving the file to a location on your PC where you typically save documents such as My Documents or other. Once the file is saved, locate the file and right click on it. Choose Rename from the drop-down menu and change the file extension to .PDF. Double click on the file and it should open in Adobe Acrobat by default provided you have the program installed.

If you prefer not to use the above method, you can opt to use a file conversion program to convert the file extension PDF_ to PDF. There are a variety of file conversion programs available as a free download on websites such as CNET and Softpedia which will convert PDF_ files for you.

There is also an online resource such as Zamzar which will perform free file conversion for you. Simply log onto the Zamzar website, browse for the PDF_ file on your PC, choose the new PDF format, enter your email address, and click on Convert. Within minutes you will receive the newly converted file in your email inbox.
