File Extension MPG

Files that contain the MPG extension are a video format associated with the Moving Pictures Experts Group or MPEG video and compression format. This type of format was established to create high quality video comparable to videos for motion pictures.

The Moving Pictures Experts Group established a number of different compression formats for MPG files which include MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. The compressed formats represent code standards for digital audio and video supported by multiple applications and devices in addition to the Internet for accessing high quality entertainment.

If you are looking for a multiplatform application that will open MPG files in Windows, Mac, and Linux, you can use VideoLAN VLC Media Player or MPlayer. These are open source media player applications available as a free download from the VideoLAN or the MPlayer website.
