File Extension HTC

The file extension HTC is defined as an HTML Component file which is used to control the dynamics of websites on the Internet. HTML Components or HTCs are commonly used with Microsoft Internet Explorer to provide interactive elements when viewing web pages. The elements are created with Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language or DHTML which controls web page behaviors.

The HTC file extension is classified as a source code and script file type which contains HTML codes and scripts that define specific dynamic components in a web page. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language and is a language which is used by programmers and developers to provide instructions for PCs and other devices on how to display web page elements.

Files that contain the HTC extension include specific steps which are to be taken by a device for a web page element. This means it is necessary to establish a file with the HTC extension for each dynamic element created for a web page. HTC files can be created using a variety of development applications and are typically stored in plain text format in a folder for the website.

How to Open HTC Files

Since HTC files are stored in plain text format, you can open and view their contents using any text editing program. If you are using Windows, you can open HTC files using WordPad, Notepad, TextPad, Open Office Writer, or Microsoft Word. For Mac OS X, you can open HTC files using Apple TextEdit, TextMate, BBEdit, or Microsoft Word 2011.
