File Extension FTM

The file extension FTM is associated with multiple programs and applications and various file types. The programs and applications include Finale, Micrografx, Family Tree Maker, and FamiTracker. FTM files contain data and information related to the program that created the file.

FTM files of this type are also associated with longer file extensions such as FTMB and FTMT which identify backup and chart files created with Family Tree Maker. Family Tree Maker is an application produced by Ancestry.com which allows you to organize and preserve the information you collect on your family’s history.

If the file extension FTM is associated with FamiTracker, the file is an audio file type that contains audio clips used with the Nintendo gaming system. FamiTracker is a software application which is used to create music clips for use with Nintendo systems.

How to Open FTM Files

Since the FTM extension is associated with multiple programs and applications, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. FTM files can consist of different file types, so you may already have a program which will open the file.

FTM files which are part of Finale must be opened using the Finale software application in order to preserve the formatting. Finale is available as a tree trial on the Finale Music website and is compatible with the Windows operating system and Mac OS X.

If the file extension FTM is related to Micrografx, the file can be opened using Corel PaintShop which is available on the Corel website. PaintShop and additional image editing applications can be obtained on the Corel website and used with the Windows operating system.

If you have trouble opening Micrografx FTM files, you can opt to convert them to another image format such as JPG or GIF to open them in other image editing applications. There are a variety of file conversion programs available as a free download on websites such as CNET, Softonic, and Softpedia which will convert this type of FTM files for you.

You can also use a free online resource such as Zamzar which will perform file conversion. All you have to do is log onto the Zamzar website, browse for the FTM file on your PC, choose a new format, enter the email address, and click on Convert. Within minutes you will receive the newly converted file in your email inbox.

FTM files which are created with Family Tree Maker should be opened using the Family Tree Maker software application to preserve the file formatting. Family Tree Maker is available as a paid download on the Genealogy.com website and is designed to be used with the Windows operating system.

If you receive an FTM file as an email attachment which was created with Family Tree Maker and you do not have the program, you can use an alternative program such as GEDCOM to open this type of FTM file. GEDCOM is an alternative genealogy application which can be accessed by logging onto the GEDCOM website.

FTM files which are part of FamiTracker can be opened using the FamiTracker software application which is available as a free download on the FamiTracker website. You can also opt to export this type of FTM file to the WAV or NSF file format which is a standard format that can be used with a broader range of software applications.
