File Extension FP5

The file extension FP5 is associated with FileMaker Pro by FileMaker, Inc., which is a database software application used by businesses, government entities, and educational institutions. FileMaker is offered in a complete line of products that include FileMaker Pro database software, FileMaker Server which manages the databases, and FileMaker Go, which is a database app for the iPhone and iPad.

The file extension FP5 is categorized as a database file type which is related to FileMaker Pro version 5. FP5 files store structured data which includes text, fields and columns, formulas, charts, graphs, numerical data, and other elements to organize information in a database format.

The file extension FP5 acts as a default database file which is automatically created when a database is established using FileMaker Pro 5. In some instances, FP5 files can also apply to FileMaker Pro version 6, which means the file can be opened using FileMaker version 5, version 6 or later. The current version is FileMaker Pro 12.

How to Open FP5 Files

If you have come across the file extension FP5 on your PC or mobile device, double click on the file to see if it will open in FileMaker or a corresponding application by default. If the FP5 file was created on your device, chances are you have the appropriate application to open the file.

If you are using Windows or Mac OS X, you can open the file extension FP5 using FileMaker Pro 5 or later. FileMaker Pro is offered in both a Windows and Mac version and is available as a free trial on the FileMaker website.

FP5 files can also be opened on an iPhone or iPad tablet PC using FileMaker Go which provides mobile users with a comprehensive database management resource. FileMaker Go is available as a free download using the App Store link on the FileMaker website.

FP5 files can also be converted to an XLS or XLSX format for use with the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application. This can be accomplished by using the Export feature in the FileMaker Pro application. To use this feature, open the database file you want to convert in FileMaker and then select the Show All icon located on the upper part of the screen. This ensures you are viewing all database files prior to exporting them to the XLS or XLSX format.

Click on File and then choose Export from the drop-down menu. Select the format you want to use, name the file, and then click on Export. Once the file is exported, simply double click on the file to automatically open it in an Excel spreadsheet.

It is also important to mention the XLS format will work in all versions of the Excel spreadsheet program. If you are using Microsoft Office 2007 or later, the XLSX format will allow you to open the file in Windows and Mac OS X. Microsoft Excel is part of the Microsoft Office suite of productivity applications and is available on the Microsoft website.
