File Extension EXP

Files with the file extension EXP are associated with more than ten programs and applications and various file types. The primary programs and applications include QuickBooks, Visual Studio, SonicWALL, and CATIA. EXP files contain data and information related to the program that created the file.

If the file extension EXP is related to QuickBooks, it is a data file type that contains text, numerical data, mathematical calculations, and other functions used with the QuickBooks financial application. QuickBooks is accounting software created by Intuit that is used to record transactions, banking information, tax data, and other types of financial data.

EXP files that are associated with Visual Studio are a developer file type that contains table data which is used to connect information for one application to another application. This type of EXP file is known as a Symbols Export file and is primarily used with Microsoft Visual Studio, which is a development application for programmers.

If the EXP extension is created with SonicWALL, it is a settings file type that contains configuration data and system settings for the SonicWALL application. SonicWALL is a firewall program produced by the Dell Corporation.

EXP files created with CATIA are a CAD file type that contains two and three dimensional drawings, lines, objects, mathematical calculations, and other elements which are used with Computer Aided Design. CATIA is 3D CAD Design software used in the engineering and architecture industries.

How to Open EXP Files

Since EXP files are associated with more than ten programs and applications, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. EXP files can consist of different file types, so you may already have a program which will open the file.

If the EXP file is created with QuickBooks, you can open it using the QuickBooks financial application, which is available in a free trial version on the Intuit website. EXP stands for Export file, which means you can opt to export the file and convert to another format such as XLS for Microsoft Excel. You simply export the file to Excel and then click on Save As and then save the file with the XLS extension.

EXP files which are classified as Symbol Export files can be opened using Microsoft Visual Studio, which is available for download on the Microsoft website. You can also use CodeWarrior, which is a development application available as a free download on the Freescale website. Both programs are compatible with the Windows operating system. For Mac OS X, you can open EXP Symbol Export files using Apple Xcode, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple Developer website.

If the EXP files are related to SonicWALL, this type of EXP file should not be opened manually since it is associated with a security protection program. EXP files of this type can be opened using the SonicWALL program which can be obtained on the SonicWALL website.

CATIA EXP file extensions can be opened using the CATIA 3D CAD Design software program. CATIA is available in several versions on the 3DS website. You can also open this type of EXP file using another Computer Aided Design program such as AutoCAD, which is available on the AutoDesk website. Keep in mind you may lose some of the elements and formatting, but you will still be able to view the file contents.
