File Extension DIZ

The file extension DIZ is associated with the ZIP compressed archive file format. ZIP files are multiple files which have been compressed into a smaller file size for the purpose of saving hard disk space and making the files easier to transmit over a network. The file extension DIZ is a text file type that contains a description of the contents of a compressed ZIP file. The file is typically in plain text ASCII format and is identified with a filename that looks similar to file-id.DIZ. The DIZ extension is an older format which was commonly used on electronic Bulletin Board Systems or BBS boards. The system allowed you to log in and connect to the bulletin board using a PC terminal. Bulletin boards were the early form of forum participation on a network and the ancestor to what we know today as social media.

How to Open DIZ Files

Since DIZ files are a text file type that can be opened using multiple programs and applications, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. DIZ files are a versatile file type, so you may already have a program which will open the file.

For the Windows operating system, you can open file extension DIZ using Compact NFO Viewer, which is an application designed for viewing plain text files in ASCII format and files that contain ASCII Art and description files. DIZ files can also be opened using any text editing program. For Windows you can open DIZ files using WordPad, Notepad, Helios TextPad, Open Office Writer, Corel WordPerfect, or Microsoft Word. For Mac OS X, you can open DIZ files using Apple TextEdit, BBEdit, TextMate, Apple Pages, or MacVim. If you use the Linux operating system, you can open and view the contents of a DIZ file using AbiWord, EditPlus, gEdit, Nano Editor, PSPad, Leafpad, KWrite or Vim.
