File Extension DCTMP

The file extension DCTMP is associated with DC++, which is an open source client used for downloading and file sharing. The client is part of the Advanced Direct Connect Protocol which assists with file sharing over the Internet. Files which contain the DCTMP extension are those which are incomplete until the download is finished. Once the download is complete, DCTMP files are renamed to the appropriate extension.

DC++ provides a way to share files online without having to deal with restrictions or limits. The DC++ open source client is a free download and does not display ads which you typically see with freeware. The Advanced Direct Connect Protocol also supports the original Direct Connect Protocol and contains new features and advances in technology for file sharing over the Internet.

The file extension DCTMP is categorized as a miscellaneous or Internet related file type which contains a partially downloaded file associated with the application that created it. The contents of a DCTMP file can vary according to the program or application it is associated with. If the file download fails for any reason, DC++ can continue the download provided the DCTMP file is still available on the active server.

How to Open DCTMP Files

The file extension DCTMP must be opened using the DC++ open source file sharing client which is designed for use with the Windows operating system. DC++ is primarily for file sharing, but since the application is open source, it is also part community. The DC++ client provides better security than a torrent which operates through peer connections which are direct or via networks that are consolidated such as LimeWire. This is because the DC++ community manages all of the connections to file sharing hubs.

In addition to managing its own hubs, DC++ does not place restrictions on user share slots. In most instances, file sharing torrents restrict access to just a few hubs. When access to the allotted number of hubs is exceeded, the hub connection is terminated. File size is also often limited on most file sharing sites, which is not the case with DC++.

DC++ is available for download on a number of websites, including SourceForge.net, CNET, DSL Reports, and others. When you click on the Download icon, you are redirected to a P2P (Peer to Peer) site to begin the download.

If the file extension DCTMP is incomplete on your PC and you are unsure of the file origin, in some instances you can open and view the contents of the file using any text editing application. If you are using Windows, you can open DCTMP files with WordPad, Notepad, TextPad, Open Office Writer, or Microsoft Word. For Mac OS X, DCTMP files can be opened using Apple TextEdit, MacroMates TextMate, or MacVim. For the Linux operating system, you can use AbiWord, gEdit, Nano Editor, or Vim to open DCTMP files.

It is also important to mention if the file is incomplete and you are unsure of the origin, it is best to use caution when opening the file. Depending upon how long the file has been stored on your PC, it could potentially contain malicious files which can cause harm to the operating system and its components.
