File Extension CFG

A file that contains the .CFG extension is responsible for loading the configuration settings for a variety of different applications. CFG files do not follow a standard format since this format is designed to work with different programs. This means the modifications will also vary according to the application the CFG is associated with.

The content which is stored inside of a CFG file contains data that is related to the program and application configuration settings. These are settings which are different from the factory default settings and affect the manner in which the program will run. If you ever want to set the program back to the factory default settings, all you have to do is delete the CFG file which contains the customized settings.

How to Open CFG Files

The content in CFG files is typically displayed as a text document. Any modifications you make to a CFG file will change the way a program or application performs. However, if you understand what you are doing when it comes to viewing and editing CFG files, there are several ways to open and view the contents of a CFG file.

If you use the Windows operating system, you can view and edit CFG files by using Notepad or a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or OpenOffice. You simply right click on the CFG file you want to view and then choose Open With from the drop-down menu. On the submenu you can choose a program from the list or click on Browse to find the program you want to use to open the file.

If you use Mac OS X, you can view and edit CFG files using Apple TextEdit, MacVim, or MacroMates TextMate. There is also other software available for opening and viewing CFG files which include FSX Aircraft CFG Editor and CFG Editor.

It is also important to mention that files which contain the file extension CFG can also refer to Citrix server connection files. If this is the case, the contents of the CFG file will contain information related to the Citrix server which may include hostname, username and password for server connection using the Citrix client, and IP address data. CFG files can also be used with software which is designed to be used with various Citrix servers.

To open and view a CFG file associated with Citrix server connection profiles, it is necessary to use the Citrix Access Client which works with the Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. If your PC cannot determine which application should be used to open and view CFG files, then it will be necessary to review the description and programs associated with the CFG file extension to determine how to open the CFG file.
