File Extension ABI

The file extension ABI is associated with multiple programs and applications and various file types. The programs and applications include AbiWord, ABI Software, ABI Trace, DNA Chromatogram, and AOL 6. ABI files contain data and information related to the program that created the file.

If an ABI file is related to AbiWord, it is categorized as a plugin file type which contains data that extends the capabilities of the AbiWord software application. The extended features include additional functions, such as tools for opening files in different types of formats, access to a dictionary or thesaurus, and other tools which are used with a text editing application. AbiWord is an open source text editing program created by the AbiSource community. The application is cross platform and can be used with multiple operating systems.

ABI files which are associated with ABI Software are an encrypted and encoded file type that contains a variety of data which has been encrypted using the ABI-Coder software application. The data contained in an ABI file is relevant to the program which created it prior to encoding and encrypting the file. ABI-Coder is an encryption software application developed by ABI Software which provides tools for encrypting and decrypting multiple files and folders.

If the file extension ABI is part of ABI Trace, the file is a database file type which stores data that is used for the collection and analysis of DNA sequencing. This type of ABI file is created using dnaLIMS, which is a bioinformatics Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is used for processing DNA sequencing.

The ABI file extension can also be associated with other DNA sequencing applications and can be categorized as a data file type which contains DNA chromatograms. ABI files of this type assist with editing DNA chromatograms and are commonly associated with the DNA Baser and ChromasPro chromatogram viewer and editing applications.

If an ABI file is related to AOL 6, it is categorized as a various data file type which contains information that is used by the AOL Desktop software application. AOL Desktop is an organizer application which provides a suite of tools for using Internet programs. AOL Desktop includes an instant messaging application, web browser, media player, and email client.

How to Open ABI Files

Since the file extension ABI is associated with multiple programs and applications, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. ABI files vary in terms of different file types, so you may already have a program which will open them.

ABI files which are part of AbiWord can be opened using the AbiWord text editing application which performs functions similar to Microsoft Word. AbiWord is available as a free download on the AbiSource website and is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, BSD, Solaris, AIX, HP/UX, OSF/1, Tu64, and the Linux operating system.

If the file extension ABI is related to ABI Software, the file can be opened using the ABI-Coder encryption software application. ABI-Coder 3.6.1.4 is available as a free download on the CNET website and is designed for use with all versions of the Windows operating system.

ABI files which are defined as ABI Trace files can be opened using dnaLIMS, which is a web-based software application that is available on the DNA Tools website. DnaLIMS is compatible with the Windows operating system and Mac OS X.

The content in DNA Chomatogram ABI files can be accessed using the DNA Baser and Chromas Pro software applications. DNA Baser is produced by CubicDesign and is available in a paid version on the DNA Baser website. ChromasPro is a DNA sequencing software application which can be downloaded in a Lite version on the Technelysium website, or you can opt to use the full or pro version of Chromas which is available on the same website as well. Both DNA Baser and Chomas are designed for use with the Windows operating system.

If the file extension ABI is associated with AOL 6, the file can be opened using the AOL Desktop Internet Suite. AOL Desktop is available for download on the AOL website and is compatible with Windows and Mac OS X.
