ID files created with AOL Instant Messenger are graphics files that contain buddy icons for use with the AIM application. The images can be imported in an image editing program for customized use with your Messenger account.
How to Open ID Files
If you are unsure what program created the ID file, double click on the file to see if it opens in a default application associated with it. If the file was created on your PC, chances are you have the appropriate program installed for opening it.
If you use Windows and the ID file originates from IBM Lotus Notes, you can open the file using IBM Lotus Notes or IBM Lotus Domino. This is the only way to access this type of ID file since it contains secure information, such as your username, license number, private key, security certificate, and password.
ID files associated with Microsoft Data Map can be opened using WinRAR compression utility or AutoCAD, which is a Computer-Aided Design program for creating maps and drawings. Both programs are compatible with Windows and Mac OS X.
If the ID files are created with AOL Instant Messenger, you can open them using Adobe Photoshop CS6 or Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. Both of these programs are compatible with Windows and Mac OS X.
