File Extension SRT

Files that contain the file extension .SRT are those associated with subtitles which are used when viewing movies and videos. The purpose of the file is to translate the dialogue in the video to another language or display the same language as used in the video for the hearing impaired.

SRT files contain the information needed to display subtitles on the screen during a video. The files can be obtained from a variety of subtitle websites online where translators create subtitles as free downloads for use with a variety of programs. You simply search for subtitles that also contain the name of the video to access a list of sites which offer subtitles in different languages.

SRT file extension is typically displayed to indicate the language being used such as videotitle.eng.srt. The first part of the extension tells you the name of the video, the second part indicates the language, and the last part displays the file type.
